Milton Olson, 81
Milton Orville Olson, of West Union, formerly of Gunder, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at his residence in West Union. He was 81.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. The Reverend Marshall E. Hahn officiated. Special music was provided by Deb Reierson, organist and Dan Anderson, soloist. Casket bearers were: Charles Anderson, Dan Anderson, Brian Olson, Bruce Olson, Kyle Flannigan, Jarrod Olson, Bob Olson, and Alex Flannigan. Honorary casket bearers were: Jim Farmer, Lee Embretson, Craig Embretson, VerDean Radloff, Bob Hanson, Elwin Dirksen, and Sylvan Torkelson. Burial was in the Marion Lutheran Church Cemetery at Gunder. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.
Milton Orville Olson was born May 11, 1925, to Ole E. and Margit (Landsgard) Olson, at the family home in Gunder, Iowa. He attended the school in Gunder and continued his education at the Postville High School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder.
On January 8, 1947, Milton was married to Donna Mae Radloff in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. They would have been married 60 years in January of 2007. Milton and Donna have seven children.
Milton farmed in the Gunder area all of his life. He also owned and operated Milton Olson and Sons trucking business for over 25 years.
Milton was a life-time member of the Marion Lutheran Church and served as President of the Church Council. He also served as a Director of the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Mae, West Union; seven children,Connie Olson, Juneau, Alaska, Jerry (Dianna) Olson, Ossian, Margaret (Mark) Carlson, Anchorage, Alaska, Larry (Cindy) Olson, Postville, Donna (Rodney) Flannigan, Virginia, Minn., Milton D. (Mary) Olson, and James (Lynnette) Olson, Postville; 13 grandchildren, Charles Anderson, Dan (Suzanne) Anderson, Brian (Eva) Olson, Bruce (Erika) Olson, Katrina Carlson, Heather (Dan) Scannell, Jarrod Olson and fiancé, Kellie Kerr, Kyle Flannigan, Sarah Flannigan, Alex Flannigan, and Megan, Annie, and Bob Olson; 11 great grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica Anderson, Kaitlyn and Brady Olson, Gavin Flannigan, Brett, Blaine, Emily, and Blake Olson, Anna Grace Scannell, and Patience Anderson.
Also surviving are a brother, Telmer (May) Olson, Monona; a sister, Selina Embretson, Farmersburg; and two sisters-in-law, Deloris Olson, Postville and Doris Olson, Green Bay, Wis., and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Olvin and Harry.
