Harvey Honn Rites At Manchester
Funeral services for Harvey Honn, 60, of Ryan were held Thursday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 p.m. at the Shelley Funeral home in Manchester with Rev. Gabriel Tweet, pastor of Peace Lutheran church of Ryan, officiating. Burial was in Peace Lutheran cemetery at Ryan.
Mr. Honn died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 5, at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
As Harvey William, he was born a son of Henry and Frieda, nee Schroeder, Honn, July 10, 1911, on the parental farm in Clayton county near Luana. He moved with his parents at an early age to Monona. He received his education in the Monona schools. Following his schooling, he farmed for several years.
He was married to Delpha May Fritz, Sept. 1, 1930, at McGregor, and they farmed near McGregor. In 1950 he left the farm and became interested in buttermaking and in the dairy industry.
He served as a buttermaker and a fieldman in many northeastern Iowa communities and for the last 11 years has been employed as a buttermaker and fieldman for the Maquoketa Valley Cooperative creamery at Ryan. He was a member of the Creamery Operators association and of the Pioneer Dairymen.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Carole J.) Hoelzer of Chicago Heights, Ill.,; one son, Ronald G. of Longmont, Colo.; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Thompson of Monona, Mrs. Harley Palas of Farmersburg, and Mrs. Claude Powell of Elkader; two brothers, Arthur of Dubuque and Roy of Waukon; and three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three sisters, Mrs. Vern (Mabel) Miller of Monona, Mrs. Ross (Ora ) Thornton of Postville, and Mrs. Roy (Eda) Bandow of Elkader.
