Eunice Marianne Torson, 83

Eunice Torson, of Ames, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at Israel Hospice House in Ames. She was 83.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 2, at Bethseda Lutheran Church in Ames.

Eunice was born on February 25, 1923, in Grand Meadow Township in Clayton County. She was the daughter of William and Amelia Kugel. She grew up on a farm in Postville and graduated from Postville High School. She was united in marriage to Duane Kamp. From this union six children were born: Janice, Ed, Jim, Tom, Daryl, and Randy.

Eunice was later married on June 11, 1970, to Gene Torson who added five daughters to the family: Dianna, Frances, Marilyn, Linda, and Kris.

She enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching, canning, cooking, reading, and attending church activities. Eunice lovingly crafted afghans and quilt pieces for every child and grandchild. She also donated her projects to church fundraisers. Gene and Eunice managed the Regency Court apartments for over twenty years in Ames.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; and two brothers, Donald and Vernon Kugel.

She is survived by her husband, Gene Torson of Ames; two sisters: Bernadine Blumhagen of Melbourne, Fla., and Gertrude Lee of Wadena; one daughter, Janice Pearson (Ned) of Knoxville; five sons: Ed Kamp (Wanda) of Shipley, Jim Kamp of Sparta, Wisc., Tom Kamp (Judy) of Knoxville, Daryl Kamp (Diane) of Epworth, and Randy Kamp (Paula) of Mitchell. She is also survived by five step-daughters and their husbands: Dianna Torson (John Barney) of Brookings, S.D., Frances Allsup (Dennis) of Strawberry Point, Marilyn Olson (Bob) of Lincoln, Neb., Linda Ortberg (Scott) of Rome, Texas, and Kris Stapher (Dwight) of Elkader. Eunice was blessed with twenty-seven grandchildren and fifty-four great grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be given to the Israel Hospice House of Ames.
