Obituary of Lawrence Meyer

From the August 1970 Postville Herald:

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1 by the Rev. Arthur J. Tolo in the Zion Lutheran Church Castalia for Lawrence G. Meyer, Ossian, who died in Winneshiek Memorial Hospital, Decorah, July 29 after a brief illness.

Lawrence G. Meyer, son of John O. and Lena (Nolte) Meyer, was born April 10, 1902 in Grand Meadow township near Postville. He attended the rural school near his home at Postville, the Ossian public school and the Minneapolis business school.

As a child he accompanied his parents to Ossian, lived in Cresco for a few years before returning to his farm north of Ossian.

On February 6, 1939, he married Ethel Schutte at Luana.

He was baptized in St. Paul's Lutheran church at Postville and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran church at Cresco. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran church at Castalia, holding several offices in the church at various times.

For 20 years Mr. Meyer was a member of the Ossian public school board, served many years as director of the Union Produce Cooperative in Ossian and also was a director many years of the Nordness Cooperative creamery.

He is survived by his wife and five children: John of Great Falls, Montana; LaRue (Mrs. Wayne Anfinson) of Waucoma; Mary (Mrs. Harold Haberichter) of Ossian; Lawrence and Marvin of Ossian; two brother, Albert of Ossian and Lloyd of Davenport, a sister , Viola (Mrs. Clifford Stevens) of Rochester, Minnesota. There are 21 grandchildren.

Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister, Henry, Harvey, and Elsie who died in infancy and a brother Walter who died in 1915.

Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Ossian.
