Carl Johanningmeier

Carl Roy George Johanningmeier, 89, Monona, Iowa, passed away Friday, August 25, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, following an extended illness.

Carl was born June 26, 1917, in Monona Township to Wilhelm H. and Johanna (Wagner) Johanningmeier. Carl was baptized August 5, 1917, and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. November 28, 1942, he was united in marriage to Nellie A. Troester at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville.

Carl was a credit to the farming profession. He was respected and admired by those who knew him. Carl not only turned the soil, he turned the lives of those that were around him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Emma in infancy and June Schriver; and two brothers, Lloyd and Palmer Johanningmeier.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nellie; three daughters, Barbara (Augie) Waltmann of Waverly, Elaine (Art) Waggoner of Commerce City, Colo., and Gayle (Bob) Nielsen of Council Bluffs; six grandchildren, Cheryl (Ned) Lundsgaard, Denise Waltmann, Heather (Jeff) Hein, Tyler Martin, Jeff Nielsen, and Angela (Brett) Elam; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willis Johanningmeier of Waukon, Maloy Johanningmeier of Monona; one sister, Betty (Henry) Kleinow of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 28, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. Rev. Allen Bidne officiated. Burial followed in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona. Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.

Casketbearers were Duane Johanningmeier, Jerry Johanningmeier, Lloyd Johanningmeier, Steve Johanningmeier, David Kleinow, and Bill Tielbar.
