Johann Kugel

Johann Harvey Kugel, the son of August Kugel and Maria Zieman, was born on May 24, 1902 in Grand Meadow township of Clayton county, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on August 24, 1902. He died at the Good Samaritan Home, in Elkader, Iowa on July 22, 1964, after a brief illness, at the age of 62 years, one month, and 28 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Amelia Borcherding, Amy Renne, and Louise; one brother, Freddie. He is survived by one brother, William Kugel of Postville; three nieces and three nephews and many other relatives and friends. Harvey lived with his sister Louise for many years until her death.

Upon the death of his sister he moved to make his home with his brother, William Kugel of Postville, until he entered the home in Elkader.

Funeral services were held in the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville on Saturday, July 25, at 1:30. Interment was in the Grand Meadow township cemetery. The Rev. Ray A. Holmquist, associate pastor of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville, officiated.
