Vernon Kugel

Vernon August Otto Kugel died Sunday, March 4, 1990 at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa of Parkinson's Disease.

He was born December 6, 1916 to William and Amelia (Hamann) Kugel on a farm in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa.

He received his education in the rural school near his home and attended the Luana High School.

On Feb. 5, 1944 he married Margaret Meyer at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. They had 4 children. The couple farmed in the Postville, Monona and Frankville areas until 1982 when they moved to Postville.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Daniel who died as the result of a car accident on Sept. 21, 1974. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; 2 daughters, Ruth Hilgerson of St. Olaf and Dianne Garret of Marshalltown; a son, Robert of Boscobel, WI; 9 grandchildren, a brother, Donald of Postville, 3 sisters, Eunice Torson of Ames, Iowa, Gertrude Lee and Bernadine Blumhagen of Monona, Iowa.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council, a member of the Farm Bureau, a director of the Big Four Fair Association, a Dairyland Seed Salesman, McNess Dealer, the Merry Mixers Square Dance club and the Postville Senior Citizens.

Pallbearers were: Jeff Lee, Jens Lee, Keith Meyer, Bruce Meyer, John Lee, Kenneth Meyer, Roger Meyer, Byron Meyer.

Services were conducted by Pastor Julius L. Peterson Wednesday, March 7, 1990 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa.
