The poet tells us "Life is like a crooked railroad, rolling o'er the sands of time", but we are glad to know that some day we will be privileged to step off at the "Grand Union Station" and hear the words "Welcome home Pilgrim from a far away land."

It pleased an almighty God to enter the home circle of our beloved friends and take a loved one to Himself again, this time it was a loving wife and kind mother, a sympathetic neighbor to answer the last summons; Mrs. Mary K. Reidel, nee Sautter. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, April 7th, 1861. In 1863 her parents came west and settled in McGregor Iowa, where she spent her maiden years. In 1883 on the 23rd day of May she was married to J.G. Reidel and settled on a farm in Giard township, Clayton County, Iowa. Out of this union there came forth four children, two sons and two daughters-Mrs. E.C. Pingel of Elkhart Lake, Wis, Chas. Reidel and Mrs. G.A. Waalk of Giard Township, and John Reidel of Monona township, all of which together with her husband, five granchildren and two brothers, Charles of Campbell, Calif., and William of Monona, Iowa, mourn her departure to the great beyond. Two brothers and three sisters preceded Sister Reidel in death. She was a very pleasing and kind dispostion, never a murmur of complaint passing over her lips but always hopeful. Even when death seemed imminent she was hopeful that soon all would be better. She fell asleep on the evening of Monday, March 8th, at the age of 58 years, 11 months and one day at her home in Giard township.

The burial took place on Thursday March 11 from her late home, from there the funeral cortege proceeded to the M.E. Church at Monona where the Rev. P.F. Walter of the Evangelical church conducted the funeral services assisted by the Rev. J.B. Ackman of the M.E. Church. From this church the remains were taken to the Monona Cemetery for burial.

Walks o'er the earth with silent tread

He bears our best loved things away,

And then we call them "dead".

Born unto that undying life,

With joy we welcome them-the same

Except in sin and pain

And ever near us, though unseen,

The dear, immortal spirits tread;

For all the boundless universe

Is life--there is no dead."

Those from away in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Pingel of Elkhart Lake, Wis, Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Reidel of Albion, IA., Mr. land Mrs. Jake Sudol and Mrs. Albert Jermeier of Nashua, Iowa, Mrs. Georges Zinbes and son, Mr. thos. Plozel, Prairie du Chien, Mrs. W.H. Bilkinton, McGregor, Mr. and Mrs. G.F. Reidel, Hayfield, Minn, and Mrs. H.D. Brown Elkader.

The pallbearers were A.E. Schwab, Wm. Hazlett, J.H. Schmitt, George Ferguson, Joe Moyer and Walter Jenkins.
