Saturday, June 25th, at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. F. S. Richards, of McGregor, occurred the marriage of Miss Winifred Richards of that place, to Carroll Stalnaker, of Auburn, Ala. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Neill Richards of Evanston, Ill., and Mrs. Ray Farmer of Rigby, Idaho. The Rev. Glenn McMichael of McGregor officiated.
Both of these young people are well known in Elkader. Mrs. Stalnaker is the youngest daughter of Mrs. F. S. Richards, was born and reared in McGregor, graduated from the public school, received her B.A. degree from the University of Dubuque, and a few years later her M.A. degree from Columbia University, New York City. For two years she taught in the public school at Idaho Falls, Idaho, and last year was instructor in history and economics in the Elkader Junior College. She intends to continue working for her Ph.D. at Auburn. Mr. Stalnaker, the only son of Mrs. Anna Stalnaker of Elkader, was born and reared in this vicinity, graduated from the high school here in the class of 1927, received his B.A degree from Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, and his M.A. degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and from 1931 to 1937 was first a student, later an instructor, in economics at the University of Illinois, at Urbana, from which he received his Ph.D. In January, 1937 he joined the faculty of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute at Auburn, Ala.
