Thur., Aug 23, at "The Little Brown Church in the Vale", near Nashua, occurred the marriage of Miss Vernice Juliet Gilje, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Gilje of Elkader, to Mr. Frank J. Loufek of Eldora, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Loufek of Cedar Rapids. The Rev. C. W. Kent, pastor, officiated. Attendants were Miss LoRene Lenth, close friend of the bride, and Joseph Loufek of Cedar Rapids, youngest brother of the groom. The bride attended Elkader High school and Elkader junior college, she graduated this spring from the State University of Iowa, at Iowa City. She is a member of Chi Omega; Delta Sigma Rho, national honorary forensic society; and the University Players. She was also a member of the women's varsity debate team and participated in dramatics and forensics. The groom graduated from Iowa State college at Ames in 1933, and at present is superintending landscape architect at the state park which is being constructed there. Prior to this he held a similar position at the Backbone state park near Lamont. While in school he was a prominent athlete, a member of the basketball team and baseball team for three years. He attended Grant High school at Cedar Rapids. After a trip to Chicago and northern Wisconsin the couple will be at home in Eldora, after Sept. 15.
