In Response To: The Murder of James S. Wait, 1919 (Reid R. Johnson)

The James Briggs who was mentioned in the Waite murder trial is my paternal grandfather. My father Erwin Briggs, many years later, asked James if he knew who actually did kill Mr. Waite. He said that his brother Charles Briggs had a crush on Mrs. Waite and that Mr. Waite intended to kill Charles. They fought and in the struggle, Mr. Waite's gun went off. Charles' niece said that he had been gassed during World War I, and mentally wasn't the same person after that.
