Franke - Schmidt marriage - 1919

Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the Evangelical Lutheran church occurred the marriage of Miss Elma M. Schmidt and Reverend Arno H. Franke. The groom's father, Rev. C. H. Franke, was the officiating clergyman. The bride's sister, Helen Schmidt, presided at the organ. The bride's cousins, Julien Schmidt and Bessie Soll, both of Elkader, acted as ushers. The bridal couple were unattended. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris G. Schmidt of Elkader and a graduate of the Elkader High School. Until very recently she has been a partner with her brother George in Schmidt's Pharmacy. The groom is the only child of Rev. and Mrs. C. H. Franke and is also a graduate of Elkader High School. He recently returned from Camp Sherman, Ohio, where he acted as a Y.M.C.A. secretary. He fitted himself for the ministry and has before him a splendid and prospering future. They will go to their new home in Calumet, Iowa, where the groom holds the pastorate of the Evangelical Lutheran church.
