McGregor's Big Blaze - 1883

At about half past two o'clock, Wednesday morning, a fire broke out in a building adjoining P. O'Brien's grocery store, McGregor, and before the progress of the flames could be checked they destroyed nine buildings, occupied by P. H. O'Brien, Eugene Scott, S. J. Peterson, Bassett, Huntting & Co., Miss Ellen Hunt, J. McHose, P. H. O'Brien, and Updegraff and Scott's warehouses. The McGregor Times estimates the loss at $50,000 with insurance to the amount of $26,000.
