Bauer-Hochhouse, marriage 1871

BAUER, HOCHHOUSE

Married near Guttenberg, by Rev. S. Macisjost, October 1st, 1871, Wm. Bauer of Rockdale, Dubuque County, to Miss Mary Amelia Hochhouse, of Cox Creek Township.

If this were a German paper we might make a pun – a play of words –here. Bauer means farmer, and Hochhaus means High house, so that Miss Mary, one of our pupils in former days, means to live high in a high house, and Mr. Bauer will farm it on that line on a extensive scale. At any rate, they have our best wishes.
