TWO ARE KILLED
IN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT SUNDAY
Two are dead and three others are seriously injured as the result of an automobile accident which occurred on Primary road No. 13 about six miles east of here early last Sunday afternoon. The dead are:
Sam Little and Edward Reardon, both of Farmersburg. The injured:
George Glawe, Gilbert Kjosa and Louis Saacke, also of Farmersburg. The five men were on their way to Elkader Sunday afternoon to take in the ball game between the Winneshiek County Giants and the Clayton Count Boosters on the fair grounds. They were with Mr. Saacke, who was owner and driver of the car.
Near the Mecklenburg school house Mr. Saacke speeded up to pass another car and while traveling at a high rate of speed the latter lost control of his machine which finally turned over three times.
Physicians were called at once and Doctors Hommel and McGrath of Elkader responded as did also Dr. Bronson of Monona. Messers. Little and Saacke were rushed to the Moran hospital here while Kjosa was taken to Monona for attention. Messers. Rardon and Glawe were taken to their homes in Farmersburg.
Mr. Little died here in the local hospital at about nine o’clock, and Mr. Reardon passed away at his home at about 10 o’clock the same evening. Funeral services were held for both at Farmersburg yesterday afternoon.
The three survivors of the accident are all in a more or less serious condition, and it will be some time before they will completely recover.
Other Accidents
Another accident happened near National when Wm. Wickersheim’s car and that of “Happy” Kurdelmeier collided at a cross-road. Both cars were badly damaged, and the occupants of the Wickersheim car were all more or less injured. Mr. Wickersheim received a broken arm, and the rest of his party were taken to the McGregor hospital.
Rumors say that there was an auto accident at Edgewood and also one at Guttenberg last Sunday, but we were unable to verify these rumors.
Apparently Sunday was a bad day for automobilists.
