HENRY HAUSCHEN AND WILHELMINA KOENEMANN

Henry Hauschen was born 9 Apr 1830 in Greleben amt Krammfeld (or Kraufeld or Krauchfeld) Meinnigen, probably the son of Frederick Hauschen and Dorothea Hines. His wife Wilhelmina Konemann (Koenemann?), the daughter of Christian and Anna (Meyer) Konemann, was born 29 Dec 1842 in Lessentiehn, Pommern, 12 miles from Berlin. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Germany and educated in the village school.

She emigrated in 1864 with her older sister and brother-in-law coming directly to Detroit, Michigan, where she married Henry Hauschen on 1 April 1866. Henry had served in the Civil War. The Hauschen family registered at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo upon their arrival in Clayton County. Their seven daughters were all born there: Anna Wilhelmina Mathilda b. 26 Dec 1866, d. 18 Aug 1867, bd. Garnavillo; Mahalia Henrietta b. 14 July 1868, d. 29 June 1947, bd. Monona, Iowa; Margarethe Wilhelmina (Minnie) Sophia b. 21 Jan 1871, d. 14 Feb 1956, bd. Farmersburg, Iowa; Emma b. 1 Apr 1873, d. 24 Apr 1937, bd. McPherson, Kansas; Bertha Elizabeth b. 4 Sept 1875, d. 6 Jan 1948, bd. Amoret, Missouri; and twins Frances Wilhelmine and Catherine Margaret b. 24 Dec 1879. Frances d. 24 Dec 1948 and is buried in Monona; Catherine d. 19 Aug 1881 and is buried in Farmersburg.

Ann and Catherine (Katie) died young; Minnie never married but lived in Farmersburg in the parental home until her death at the age of 85. Mahalia married Herman L. Reinke, the son of Ferdinand and Bertha (Engelhardt) Reinke 22 Mar 1899. Emma married Bertrand Olmstead, the son of John and Nellie (Peck) Olmstead, 15 Dec 1898. Bertha married John Reinke, the son of Ferdinand and Juliane Bertha (Engelhardt) Reinke, 4 Jan 1898. And Frances married Arno Oelke

The family lived for a time in short time in Clayton and then relocated in Garnavillo where Henry followed the trade of a blacksmith until 1878 when they moved to Farmersburg. In Farmersburg he again worked as a blacksmith until he died 18 Dec 1878 as the result of taking laudanum, a poison, leaving his widow to raise their six surviving daughters.
Wilhelmina Hauschen died on her 85th birthday, 29 Dec 1927 and was buried beside her husband Henry and daughter Katie in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery.
