KARL VULLGRAF AND AMELIA SEIFERT
(By Judy Bender Moyna)

Karl Vullgraf, the son of Henry and Dorothea (Henning) Vullgraf, was born 20 Dec 1867 at Clayton Center. He was baptized 14 Dec 1868 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center. On 16 Aug. 1895 he was married to Amelia Seifert, the daughter of Rev. F. W. and Catherine (Ruckdaeschel) Seifert at Clayton Center by Rev. Seifert.

Karl and Amelia were the parents of a son Herold Heinrich b. 17 May 1897 who died 12 Aug. 1897.

Karl died 23 Feb. 1902 of pneumonia in the new house he and his wife had just built on their farm.

Amelia married her brother-in-law, the widower Fred W. Vogt and they continued to live in Read Twp. and farming the Vogt and Vullgraf farms. In 1916 Fred and Amelia, with their daughters Lillian and Marion, moved to Farmersburg where they lived until Fred died in 1929.

Amelia and Marion lived in Farmersburg until 1944 when they came to Elkader to live with Amelia's granddaughter Marinette Oelke Bender. Amelia died at Iowa City of a heart attack following surgery on 28 July 1945. She is buried at Clayton Center.

~The information was collected by Judy and Jerry Moyna, from family members, especially Lillian (Vogt) Oelke Glawe, Marinette (Oelke) Bender Bink Olson, Arma Jean Newbern, Elkader, Rueben Muellers, St. Olaf, Floyd and Ora Schroeder, Guttenberg, Iowa, several histories of Clayton County including 1882 and 1912 and 1984, from various Iowa and Federal census records, several newspapers from the county including the Clayton County Journal, The Elkader Register, and the Clayton County Register, etc.

Plans include scanning available photographs, post cards, plat maps, and other appropriate printed material and the continuation of the excerpts from the local newspapers. A print out of the descendants of the Vogts is already on computer. Copies on a computer disk of the Family Tree Maker information and the text shown here are available to anyone who wants to add information to that now on file. Also, any additions and corrections, text or pictures, or contributions are more than welcome. Facilities exist to copy and return photographs. Contact Judy via her email address.
