FRED W. VOGT

Frederick W. Vogt, the son of Frederick H. Vogt and Sophia Kottleman, was a farmer in Read Township all his life. His first wife was Line Anna Vullgraf, the daughter of Henry and Dorothea (Henning) Vullgraf.

They were the parents of seven children: Ella b. 27 Jan. 1882; Fred b. 17 Oct. 1883; Linda b. 12 Apr. 1884; Adelia b. 21 Seat 1886; Arthur b. 23 Dec 1888; Ina b. 17 Feb. 1891; and Leona b. 29 Apr. 1893, all born in Read Township.

Fred and Art never married; they lived on the family farm until their deaths. Fred died 10 Dec 1969 and Art 24 Feb. 1976. Both are buried at Clayton Center.

Ella married Fred Lahrs 23 Nov. 1904; Linda married George Kelpein 13 Dec 1905. Adelia married Louis Radloff 20 July 1905, Ina married Ed Glawe 8 Feb. 1910, and Leona married Paul Haverland 8 Feb. 1912.

The first wife of Fred Vogt, Line Vullgraf, was b. 1 May 1857 and d. 26 June 1898. In 1902 Fred married Amelia Seifert Vullgraf, the widow of Carl Vullgraf, his brother-in-law.

Fred and Amelia Vogt were the parents of two daughters, Lillian Anna b. 4 Feb. 1903, and Marion Sophia b. 21 Aug. 1905. Marion never married and died 7 Jan. 1956. She is buried at Clayton Center.

Lillian married Donald Oelke and they were the parents of two daughters, Marinette and Donna. Lillian's second marriage was to Theodore Glawe. Lillian is still living.

~The information was collected by Judy and Jerry Moyna, from family members, especially Lillian (Vogt) Oelke Glawe, Marinette (Oelke) Bender Bink Olson, Arma Jean Newbern, Elkader, Rueben Muellers, St. Olaf, Floyd and Ora Schroeder, Guttenberg, Iowa, several histories of Clayton County including 1882 and 1912 and 1984, from various Iowa and Federal census records, several newspapers from the county including the Clayton County Journal, The Elkader Register, and the Clayton County Register, etc.

Plans include scanning available photographs, post cards, plat maps, and other appropriate printed material and the continuation of the excerpts from the local newspapers. A print out of the descendants of the Vogts is already on computer. Copies on a computer disk of the Family Tree Maker information and the text shown here are available to anyone who wants to add information to that now on file. Also, any additions and corrections, text or pictures, or contributions are more than welcome. Facilities exist to copy and return photographs. Contact Judy via her email address.
