Leon and Joyce Walter Hoth
Leon and Joyce Hoth were both born, raised, and now live in Clayton County. Leon Carl Emil Hoth, son of Willis and Emma Hoth, was born February 6, 1936, and Joyce Amanda Walter, daughter of Lester and Louise Walter, was born June 8, 1940. Leon attended Denmark country school through eight grad and graduated from Elkader High School in 1954. He was confirmed at E & R. Church, in Elkader. Leon moved on a farm in Read Township on Highway 13 near Elkader as a small child where he now resides and farms. Joyce grew up on a farm in Wagner Twp., where she attended Eno country school through seventh grade and graduated from Luana High School, in 1958. Joyce was confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg.
On September 16, 1958, Leon and Joyce were married in St. John's Lutheran Church, in Farmersburg. Three daughters made their family complete. Leona Lisa was born on Father's Day, June 21, 1959, at General Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Leona attended Central Community School in Elkader and graduated in 1977. She continued her education at UNI in Cedar Falls and graduated in 1981 with a BA degree in Education. Leona now teaches in Odebolt, Iowa, while attending summer school pursuing a Masters Degree.
Julie Ann was born at Central Community Hospital, in Elkader on December 10, 1962. Julie also attended school at Central and graduated in 1982. On August 13, 1983, Julie married Doyle Friederich. Doyle and Julie with their new son, Steven Doyle, live and work near Manchester, Iowa.
A third daughter, Suzy Kay, was born August 28, 1968, at Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Suzy is now a busy sophomore at Central Community at Elkader. All three girls were active in the Ful-O-Pep 4-H Club, making the Clayton County Fair an important event every summer.
Joyce is a member of the Friendly Neighbor Club and is now working at the Central State Bank in Elkader. The family attends Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader where all three girls were baptized and confirmed.
