Nelson, Rasmus, painter -- McGregor -- born 1 March, 1850, in Nes, Hedemarken, Norway. After having received a common school education in his native country, he came direct to Clayton county, Iowa, in 1867, and four years later settled in McGregor, having been there ever since, engaged in painting. Previously, he had worked over a year on farms in Wisconsin for his uncle, as well as in St. Olaf, Clayton county, Iowa.
Nelson, in partnership with his brother, Gilbert, does a large business, employing six or seven men all the time. In 1881 he was married to Mathea Johnson Thorpe, of Norway. They have three children.
