Pioneer Garfield
Woman Is Dead
Mrs. Carlton Woodard Died At Her
Home Near Webb—Had Been In
Ill Health For Some Time
Mrs. Carlton Woodard, a pioneer resident of Garfield township, died at her home northeast of Webb last Saturday morning. She had been in poor health for some time, and while her death was not unexpected, it fell with sad force on her relatives and friends.

Sarah Ann Hurlbut was born in the year of 1844 Feb. 26th at North Sutton, Quebec, Canada. Died
June 7th, 1919, at Webb, Iowa. Was united in marriage to Carlton Woodard in the year 1864, Oct. 18th
In 1869 they moved to Piano,Ill., in 1870 to Jasper County, Iowa; 1877 to Pocahontas county, Iowa, in 1886 to Clay county, Iowa, where they have resided ever since. Seven children were born to this union: Mrs. Amber Veazie, Havelock, Ia.; Mr. Alfred Woodard, Webb, la.; Mr. Hal Woodard, Webb, Mrs. Eva Watson, Carstairs, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Grace Bailey, Webb, Ia., Mr. Dolph Woodard Hewitte, Minn.

She is survived by her husband, seven children and three brothers, the first break in the family circle. The whole family being with her in her last hours except one daughter, Mrs. Eva Watson of Carstairs, Canada.

Among us all she ranked as a woman of culture, refinement sympathy, a kind neighbor, a good
friend, a loving wife and a devoted mother, and a woman of heroic mould.

Interment in Garfield Township cemetery
