Death Takes Mrs. Katharina Freeburg at Age of 83 Years.

Mrs. Katharina (Parsons) Freeburg, June 22, 1846-May 25, 1930

Mrs. Katharina Freeburg, an early pioneer resident of Clay County, died, at her home, 801 North Grove Street, Sunday evening, May 25, 1930, at 6:30 o'clock, following an illness of several months. She was 83 years, 11 months and 3 days of age at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held yesterday at one o'clock at the Freeburg home, and at two o'clock at the Lincoln Lutheran Church. Rev, G.L. Dagner, Pastor of the Swedish Lutheran Church of Spencer, will officiate at the rites, and interment will be made in the Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery.

Katharina Freeburg, nee Parson, was born in the Parish of Istrum, Province of Skaraborg, Sweden, June 22, 1846. She was united in marriage to Karl Gustaf Magnuson Freeburg, July 26, 1870, and in April of 1880, Mr. and Mrs. Freeburg with their four children emigrated to America. They came directly to Clay County and settled on their homestead in Lincoln Township, twelve miles south of Spencer. In 1911 Mr. Freeburg preceded his wife in death, and only a few months ago, a son John Nathaniel passed away.

In 1914 Mrs. Freeburg moved from her homestead to Spencer where she has since made her home on North Grove Street.

The children surviving are Karl Herbert Freeburg of Rossie, Mrs. Selma Mathilda Olson of Spencer, Mrs. Clara Emelie Carlson of Royal, Martin W. Freeburg of Spencer, Gustaf Albert and Harry Edward Freeburg, both of Walnut Grove, Minnesota, Mrs. Emma Katherina Gustafson of Royal, Iowa, Mrs. Hannah Marie Freeburg of Spencer and Mrs. Beda Wilhelmina Sonius of Greenville. The decreased is also survived by two brothers and one sister living in Sweden, besides thirty-seven grandchildren and sic great grandchildren.

Mother Freeburg was even in her old age unusually strong and healthy, but about 14 months ago, her health began to fail her. During last summer she seemed to recover somewhat from her illness. During the last five weeks she has been confined to her bed entirely. During the entire time of her sickness the children have given her the very best attention and care. She bore her bodily suffering with fortitude and Christian patience in the Lutheran Church of Sweden, she also remained true to her Mother Church in her adopted homeland.

In 1889 at the organization of the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church at Lincoln, she became a charter member for many years. In 1919 she transferred her membership to the Swedish Evangelical Bethesda Church, Spencer, Iowa. Mrs. Freeburg had even from early years experienced the atoning and saving grace of Christ as her Savior and she could therefore place her trustfully in Christ as her Savior and die in peace. Mrs. Freeburg was a true Christian mother who gave testimony of a living faith nor merely in words, but also by a pious and consistent life and character.
