Mr. Didde Hovinga February 17, 1840-January 15, 1925

Mr. Didde Hovinga, familiarly known throughout the neighborhood as "Dick" died at his son's residence, S.D. Hovinga, with whom he made his home, at Webb, Iowa, Thursday, January 15, 1925. He died from a severe attack of pneumonia of less than a week's exposure from which he could not rally and was eighty-four years, ten months and twenty eight days old at the time of his death.

He was born at Dunde, Germany, February 17, 1840, where he was reared and where he united with the Presbyterian Church in his youth.

In 1860 he was united in marriage to Miss Denna Fricke and to this union five children were born, namely,Tieda, who became Mrs. John Schetzberg; Anna, who is Mrs. Thomas Peabody of Gillett Grove, Iowa; S.D. Hovinga of Webb; Roy who is in Arkansas at present and Denna, who was Mrs. Dave Phillips. Mrs. Schetzberg and Mrs Phillips are both dead and Mrs Hovinga also preceded her husband, dying March 28, 1908.

Mr. Hovinga came to America with his family in 1882, settling in Hardin County, Iowa, where he remained for nineteen years until 1891. He and his family then moved to Clay County, Iowa, locating near the present site of Webb, He was well known among the old settlers there and took his place among them as a friend and a neighbor and as one of the builders in a fast developing. For the past few years his home with his son at Webb. Besides his children, he is survived by sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Webb Baptist Church Sunday, January 18, by the Rev. L.L. Smith, Pastor. Burial was in Garfield cemetery at Webb.
