Esther Louise Hodges, 78, Spencer, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1999, at her home in Spencer.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at the United Pentecostal Church, Spencer with Rev. Dale L. Hodges officiating.

Casket bearers were Daniel Flemming, Ben Reece, Brian Gilliam, Brad Wallce, Jonathan Hodges and J.C. Panska.

Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery, Spencer with Warner Funeral Home of Spencer in charge of the arrangements.

Esther Louise Hodges, the daughter of Wilhelm and Rosie Felske Hoffman, was born on Sept. 12, 1920, in Emerson, Manitoba, Canada. She attended public school in Emerson and later attended Bible School in Saskatchewan, Canada.

On Nov. 18, 1937, she married Rev. Lloyd Hodges in Hallock, Minn. Following their marriage, she and her husband pastured churches in Marathon, Sibley and Spencer, and also in Worthington, Minn. They also lived in St. Paul, Minn., where they assisted in the church. In 1975 they returned to Spencer and in their retirement years were involved in the United Pentecostal Church, where Mrs. Hodges had been a devoted pianist. For many years she and her husband had a weekly ministry at the Sunset Apartments in Spencer.

Mrs. Hodges was preceeded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her husband of Spencer; her children: Darlene Flemming and her husband, Don, of St. Paul, Minn.; Pastor Dale Hodges and his wife, Dorothy, of Spencer; David Hodges and his wife, Joyce, of Spencer; Joy Gilliam and her husband, Mike, of St. Paul, Minn.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Henningsen of Winnipeg, Canada; two sisters-in-law: Eva Hoffman of Winnipeg, Canada and Evelyn Hoffman of Morris, Canada.
