Sylvanus Smith, after an illness of almost three years, early yesterday morning passed to the great beyond. Mr. Smith a few weeks ago, went to Rochester. Minnesota, and underwent a surgical operation, after which he made material improvement, but about two weeks ago he again grew worse and continued to fail until he passed away as before stated. The funeral will be held at the home at 2 o'clock this afternoon, the services to be conducted by Kev. M.D. Bush, of Milford , Mr. Smith's old pastor and close personal friend. Burial will be at Riverside. Mr. Smith was among the early settlers of the county, his coming dating back to about 1870, when he located in Lincoln township. A man of good ability and strict integrity, his worth was soon recognized by calling him to positions of responsibility. He was a good citizen and measured up to the high standard of manhood. A more detailed account will be published next week.
