Funeral services for Earl LeRoy Brooks were held Monday, June 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the Cobb Warner Chapel in Spencer with Rev. Don Shoff of Linn Grove officiating.
Burial was in Barnes Township cemetery in Linn Grove
Pallbearers were Wendell Jones, Bernard Jones, Robert Gould, Shirley Brooks, Russell Kellar and William Morris.
Earl LeRoy Brooks was born in Boone county, Iowa, on April 5, 1893. He passed away June 16, 1956, at the Veterans Administration hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 63 years, 2 months, and 11 days.
He was united in marriage June 26, 1921, to Grace Weisbrod at Jackson, Minn. To this union four children were born: Emmett. Maxine and two who died in infancy.
He farmer in the Rossie, Linn Grove vicinity until 1936 and in later years was a cafe owner in Boone county until ill health. In later years he operated the Spencer Golf and Country club for a few months where he made many friends until ill health forced him to retire In 1952.
As a young man he attended the Baptist church at Linn Grove, Iowa and was baptized.
He served in World War I as a PFC in Company F of the 87th Infantry
He was a member of the American Legion, Ray Hawbakei Post of Grand Junction, Iowa and also the Lions club at Grand Junction. Ia., for three years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George P Brooks and Aria S. (Peper) Brooks, two
sisters, Mrs. Rita Keller and Lulu Brooks, also by a daughter and son who passed away in infancy.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Grace, two children, Emmett of Clinton, Iowa, and Maxine (Mrs. John Thompson) of Schleswig Iowa ; four sisters, Mrs. Millie Lewis. Linn Grove, Kate (Mrs. Tom Morris) Linn Grove, Susie (Mrs. H. R. Jones) of Linn Grove, Blanche (Mrs. Herman Smith) of Elnora, Indiana; one brother. Ed Brooks of Sioux City; two grandchildren, John L. and Mary Ann Thompson, and also nieces and nephews, and other relatives and a host of friends.
