John Derry, an old resident and highly respected citizen of Dickens, died Monday. Mr. Derry had long been engaged In mercantile business in that town, and Rave it up but afew mouths ago on account of failing health.
Mr. Derry was born in Pomeroy, Ohio, Feb. 18th, 1800, and moved to Iowa the spring of 1881.
Six years later, Nov. 26, 1887, he was married to Miss Alma Cedarholm.
The wife and one son are left to mourn their loss.
He also leaves a father and mother, one sister and three brothers.
Mr. Derry was always religiously inclined, and was converted when a boy about sixteen years old. After coming to Dickens he joined the M.E. church, though not a member of this church at the time of his death. He was a regular attendant at the Congregational church and had taken quite an interest in the work.
The funeral was held yesterday at 2 p.m., at the Congregational church.
