Funeral services for John Robert Thorne will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. Pastor Roger Hanson will officiate
Mr. Thorne, 87, died Sunday at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.
Casket bearers will be Steve Thorne, Randall Baumeister, Shane Keefer, Michael Thorne, Roger Veum and Greg Schoenewe
Honorary bearers will be Carl Jones, John Galm, Holmes Seaton, John Nielsen, Merle Dopp, Dale Brower and Francis Anderson
Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly.
The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements
The family request memorials be given to the Everly Fire Department
Mr. Thorne, the son of William and Ella (BullocK) Thorne, was born December 30, 1899, in Marquez, Texas. His childhood years were spent in Texas and he received his early education in schools in the Waco and Dallas areas
On September 19, 1925, he married Dollie Lorenzen in Spencer. Throughout their marriage he farmed near Moneta and continued farming in the community following his wife's death on April 28, 1951
He married Dorothy Lee Schoenewe in Everly on December 7, 1953. He continued farming near Moneta until moving to Everly in 1957
In addition to farming, he was a Caterpillar operator for 34 years retiring in 1982. He also enjoyed flying and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol
Mr. Thorne is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons and their wives, Bernard and Arleen of Bentonville, Arkansas and Harold (Hap) and Charlotte of Moneta; two daughters and their husbands, Helen and Don Baumeister and Marjorie and Darrel Scharnberg, all of Everly; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Whitely of Corpus Christi, Texas
One step son and his wife, Ron and Winnie Schoenewe of Everly; two step daughters, Marge Keefer and her husband Ed of Everly and Mary Wilson of Fort Dodge
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dollie; one son, Herbert; two brothers, Ivan and Rex; and one sister, Ollie Fay
