Carroll A. Thompson, 69, of Spencer died Saturday, September 22, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Warner Chapel in Spencer. The Rev. Keith Kohlmeier will officiate
Casket bearers will be Carl Winterboer, James Thompson, Al Tielbur, LeRoy Morton and Ray Thompson
Burial will be Lone Tree Cemetery, Everly
The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements
Mr. Thompson was born May 18, 1921 in Spencer to Jack and Edith Thompson. He attended grade school and high school in Spencer. Following his schooling he was employed by his grandfather, Fred Jones of Spencer, at Jones Transfer
On December 23, 1940, he married Maxine Roberts of Everly.
Mr. Thompson was a member of the First Methodist Church in Spencer. He continued to work for his grandfather until he was called to served in the 161st Infantry A.T. Company of Camp Hood, Texas
After his training, he was shipped to Osaka, Japan, where he served one and half years active duty, then six months of Army occupation on Osaka. He received the Bronze Battle Star in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal
Following his discharge, Mr. Thompson returned to Spencer and work at Jones Transfer. He later moved to Fargo, North Dakota and worked in Allied Van Lines, later to Pasadena, California, where he was a part time dispatcher for Van & Sons of Montebello, California
Mr. Thompson and his wife semi retired and moved back to Spencer
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, one sister, three brothers and one nephew
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife; one son and his wife, Jerry and Jose of Mission Hills, California; three grandchildren; one brother and his wife, James and Jane of Miller's Bay; Wahpeton and one sister and her husband Arlene and Al Tielbur of Spencer
