Services for Merl Thomas, 82, of Spencer will be Tuesday at 1:30p.m. at the Warner Chapel. The Rev. Harrison Dawes will officiate and burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery at Everly
Mr. Thomas died March 2 at Longhouse Residence
Bearers will be David Gonnerman, James Johnson, Kelly McCarty, Loren Gonnerman, Thomas Ericksen and LeRoy Koep
Mr. Thomas was born December 5, 1896, in Douglas Township, Clay County, Iowa, the son of Evan and Alice (Philips) Thomas. He was raised there and received his early education there. He lived in Clay County all of his life
He married Agnes Koep on August 29, 1941 in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
He continued to farm in the Linn Grove and Rossie area until retiring in 1973, when he moved to Spencer
He was a member of the Rossie United Church of Christ and the Eagles Lodge
Survivors include his widow, Agnes of Spencer; children, Donald and LaVonne Hansen of Hartley, Mrs. Elenor Florence of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Ruby Downing of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Cleone Capp of Omaha, Nebraska, June and Donald Gonnerman of Okoboji; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one brother, Parker Thomas of Royal; one sister, Mrs. Letha Seivers of Chicago, Illinois
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Verne Thomas; and one sister, Etta Raveling
The Warner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
