Services for Albert John Thiessen, 79, of Everly, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. Pastor Roger Hanson will officiate with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly
Masonic services will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Warner Chapel by Evening Shade Lodge No. 312 A.F and A.M.
Casket bearers will be Dr. Richard Elbert, Michael Nassif, George Thiessen, Tom Kaiser, Emil Cosimo and William Nassif
Patrick Nassif, David Nassif, Daniel Nassif, Jay Elbert, Kent Elbert and Jeffrey Elbert will serve as honorary bearers
Thiessen, the son of George and Alvena (Strube) Thiessen, was born June 7, 1901 in Elberton, where he spent his early childhood. He moved with his family to Dickinson County in 1912. Thiessen graduated from Everly High School and attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City
He married Clara Fell on April 18, 1923 in Spencer and operated a trucking firm before starting to farm, first north of Everly and later south of town. They moved to Everly in 1962
A member of the Hope Lutheran Church of Everly. Thiessen was a 50 year member of the Everly Masonic Lodge and the Shrine, a director of the Everly State Bank, a justice of the peace, a trustee for Lone Tree Township and a board member of the Elevator, the Everly School Board and the United Farmers Telephone Board
Thiessen died Saturday at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mearl; one sister, Candace Olmsted; and three grandsons, Paul Kaiser, Matthew Kaiser and Garland Goddard, Jr.
Surviving him are his wife, Clara of Everly; one son, Richard of Everly; five daughters, Frances Nassif of Des Moines, Clarice Elbert of Whittemore, Rhoda Kaiser of Spirit Lake, Mary Ellen Cosimo of Des Moines and Sara Goddard of Atlanta, Georgia; 26 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one brother, Wilbert Thiessen of Spencer.
The Warner Funeral Home is in charge of the service arrangements
