Services for Nellie Ruth Thiel, 89, of Spencer, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Warner Chapel, Spencer. The Jerry Brown will officiate at the services for Mrs. Thiel and burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery, Everly
The Warner Funeral Home, Spencer, Was in charge of arrangements
Mrs. Thiel died Monday at Longhouse Residence, Spencer
The daughter of Albert and Mary Francis (Chapman) Thompson. Mrs. Thiel was born October 5, 1896, in Fonda. Her family moved to the Dickens area when she was young and she received her early education there. After graduating from Spencer High School in 1915, she attended school in Minneapolis for her Normal Teaching Certificate
She married L.E. Thiel in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, April 8, 1933. Throughout their marriage, the Spencer Community was their home. For many years Mrs. Thiel taught school in the communities of Dickens, Lake Center, Lake Park and at other rural Clay County Schools. she continued to do some tutoring after her retirement
Mrs. Thiel was an avid traveler, visiting all the states, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Europe.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Women's Club, VFW and the Rebekah Lodge
Survivors include there stepsons, Bryce of South Haven, Minnesota, Dean of Ames and Dayton of California; two stepdaughters, Lorraine Soufe of Harris and Phyllis Watkins of Annandale, New Jersey, a niece, Madeline Allen whom Mrs. Thiel had raised from infancy; 20 grandchildren; and 37 great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1963, one stepdaughter, Earlaine Braun, four brothers and three sisters
