Funeral for Martin Joe Schmidt, 17, of Moneta was held Tuesday from Hope Lutheran Church of Everly. Pastor Roger Hanson officiated
Burial was at Lone Tree Cemetery at Everly
Bearers were Jon Ruehle, Mark Wilcox, Scott Koehnk, Gaylen Sindt, Dennis Steinbeck and Doug Wittrock
Mr. Schmidt died in a swimming accident at Scharnberg Park near Everly, Saturday, September 9.
He was born October 19, 1960, to Arvin and Muriel (Kruse) Schmidt in Spencer
He was raised in the Everly community and received his education there. He was a senior at Everly High School, a member of the National Honor Society, president of the Everly Chapter FFA and a member of 4H and participated in both baseball and basketball
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Everly, presently serving as president of the Luther League
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arvin Schmidt of Moneta; a brother, Bradley Schmidt of Everly; three sisters, Kimberly of Victor, Iowa and Nancy and Linda both at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Kruse of Linn Grove and grandmother, Mrs. John C. Schmidt of Everly.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John C. Schmidt
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements
