Funeral services for Thomas Wilkems Pettit, 89, of Everly will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Everly. The Rev. Gary Bird will officiate and burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly.
Mr. Pettit died Tuesday at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer
Bearers will be Thomas Pettit, Thomas LeClair, Kenneth Pettit, Jr., Dave Schoorman, Stanley Pettit and Duane Popp
Mr. Pettit was born October 11, 1889, at Kearney, Nebraska, the son of Franklin and Emma (Smith) Pettit. He received his education in Kearney and farmed there. He moved to Hartley in 1913.
He married Pearl Mead of Chetopa, Kansas in 1907. She died in 1912
He married Maude Esther Caskey on August 25, 1915, at Parker, South Dakota. They moved to Clay County where they farmed for many years. In 1930, they moved to Everly, where he worked at various jobs before entering the construction business.
He was a member of the Everly United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Maude of Everly; five sons, Harry Pettit of Worthington, Minnesota, Franklin Pettit of Anchorage, Alaska, Clifford Pettit of Hartley, Walter Pettit of Everly and Donald Pettit of Sebring, Florida; four daughters, Mrs. Violet Pinney of LeMars, Mrs. Clara Wieben of Everly, Mrs. Catherine Nielsen of Gillett Grove and Mrs. Ruth Taylor of Dickens, 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one brother, Clifford Pettit of Kearney, Nebraska and one sister, Mrs. Flossie Kiess of Loveland, Colorado
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, four sons, two sisters and four brothers.
The Warner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
