Services for Maude Esther Pettit, 88, of Everly will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Everly. The Rev. Gary Bird will officiate, and burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly
Mrs. Pettit died Sunday at the Spencer Municipal Hospital
Bearers will be Darryl Popp, Dave Schoorman, Kenneth Pettit, Thomas LeClair, Thomas Pettit, and Stanley Pettit
Mrs. Pettit was born August 30, 1889, on a farm near West Liberty, Kentucky. The daughter of Miles and Clarinda Caskey. When she was five years old the family moved to Iowa, and she attended rural schools in Sioux Rapids and college in Humboldt. She taught school in both Clay and Buena Vista Counties.
She married Thomas Pettit on August 25, 1915, at Parker, South Dakota. They farmed in the Everly area.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Everly
Survivors include five sons, Harry Pettit of Worthington, Minnesota, Franklin Pettit of Anchorage, Alaska, Clifford Pettit of Hartley, Walter (Jim) Pettit of Everly and Donald Pettit of Sebring, Florida; four daughters, Mrs. Violet Pinney of LeMars, Mrs. Clara Wieben of Everly, Mrs. Catherine Nielsen of Gillett Grove and Mrs. Ruth Taylor of Dickens; 23 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; one brother, Asa Caskey of Sioux Rapids
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on September 20, 1977, four sons, two sisters and one brother
The Warner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
