Funeral services for Hans Henry Joens, 76 were held at the Baumgarten Funeral Home in Hartley, on Thursday, February 24, 1983, at 10.30 a.m. Rev William Tomlinson was the officiating clergyman.
Casket bearers were Jack Cuttell, Dale Hollesen, Ed Koehlmoos. John Droll Barb Dillingham, Marvin Puhrmann.
Committal services were held at Lone Tree Cemetery, Everly, Iowa.
Hans Henry Joens, the son of Peter and Margaret (Kruse) Joens, was born at Cherokee. Iowa on September. 25, 1906. He attended school near his childhood home.
He was united in marriage to Verna Puhrmann at Paullina. Iowa in October. 20, 1935. They farmed and made their home in the Lake Park area. They had lived at Everly and then at Hartley since 1970.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Joens served from December 9, 1943 to October 18, 195
He passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February. 22. 1983 at the age of 76.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Verna in 1979, one son, Arnold in 1979, one sister, Marie Peters, and one brother, Frank.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters. Mrs. Don (Mardell) Bates of Hartley and Mrs. Jim (Phyllis) Davis of Forest City, Ia.; two sons, Paul Barnhart of Hot Springs, Ark. and Glen Joens of Hartley; 26 grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Edna Puhrmann of Lake Park. Iowa; other relatives and friends.
