John J. Kraemer 1851-1916

Between 7 and 8 a. m. on Aug. 22, 1916, John J. Kraemer died of heart failure after having been afflicted with diabetes for several years. Deceased was up and around the day before but felt bad for several days previous to his death.
He was born in Wurtemburg, Germany, on Oct. 17, 1851, and remained there until 19 years old, when he came to America and worked on a farm in LaSalle county, Illinois. In 1879 he came to Iowa and rented 80 acres in Riverton township, not far from the county farm. He next bought and farmed 80 acres west of Spencer, where he sold out six years later and
again rented land near Spencer for five years. He next located on 320 acres bought in section 33 of Lone Tree township, from whence he .retired about six years ago to live in
Everly, after having bought 160 more acres in said township besides a farm near Colby, Kansas.
In LaSalle county, Illinois, he married Frederica Vonesse, who died in this county in 1900, leaving nine children.
On March 27, 1901, he married Miss Mary Pflugfelter in New York City and had five children by this union.
The character of John J. Kraemer is best known in his starting, as a stranger in America with no capital but industry and determination. Besides being thrifty he was a good law abiding citizen and neighbor.
The funeral was held Friday, Aug. 25, with services at the house at 1 p.m. and at the M.E. church at 1:30 and the burial was in Riverside cemetery, Spencer.—Everly News.
