Funeral services for Stephen Thomas Oliver, 72 of Montgomery and formerly of the Spencer, Everly and Royal areas. were held last Friday, September 10, at the United Methodist Church in Montgomery. The Rev. Robert Phillips officiated, and burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly
Casket bearers were Paul Anderson, Bruce Anderson, Bruce Vodraska, Ernest Gath, Jim Kelsey and Roger Wieck
Oliver was born November 19, 1909 in Norton, Kansas, the son of Francis Mariam and Elizabeth (Munday) Oliver. He graduated from high school in Everly in 1928 and married Ella Hulda Merry on June 4, 1933 in Montgomery
For the first 11 years of their marriage, the Oliver's lived in Royal, where he was employed with his father in the implement business. they then moved to Montgomery, where he ran his own implement business for 10 years. He was later employed by Midstates Builders in spencer, first as a construction foreman and later as a salesman
A 40 years member of the International Order of Odd Fellows. Oliver belonged to the Montgomery United Methodist Church
He died September 7 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake
Oliver was preceded in death by his wife in February, his parents, one brother and one sister
Survivors include five children, Mrs. Audrey Nissen of Mesa, Arizona, John of Dows, Mrs. Pat Alger of Dickens, Ron of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Doug of Louisville, Colorado; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Hennings
The Donovan Leyson Funeral Home of Spirit Lake was in charge of the service arrangements
