Ryan Michael Long was born on April 27th, 1982 in Kokomo, Indiana to Michael and Diane (Dysard) Long. Ryan grew up in Michigan City, Indiana, right on the shore of Lake Michigan, running the streets with his cousins and friends. He graduated from Rogers High School in 2000. He then went to college at Brown in Minnesota and received a degree in Radio Broadcasting.
Ryan moved to Iowa when he got his first radio gig at the Ottumwa Radio Station. In May of 2007 Ryan moved to Spencer and started at the Spencer Radio Group. He was very proud to be the longest serving News Director for the radio station. In 2017, he was promoted to the Program Director of KICD AM and had his own morning show that aired weekdays from 6 am to 10 am. In his downtime, Ryan recently started DoorDashing and delivering Amazon packages. He loved socializing and made new friends everywhere he went. He had the best sense of humor, was so smart, always found joy in life, and could make anyone laugh and smile.
Ryan met the love of his life, his “Rose Gold Princess,” Kelsie Huffman Baccam in 2017. They were the perfect “Match!” RyRy jumped right into the role of dad to her three young children Dylan, Emersyn, and Baylie. He loved them with all of his heart, and bragged about them on the radio everyday. He enjoyed spending time with Kelsie and their children, watching countless ball games, swimming, playing with their puppies, and having board game and trivia nights. He was a lifelong pro wrestling fan, and loved all things Chicago Sports, sports radio, and the 49ers. Ryan was a lover of craft beer. He loved to go on “Brew-cations” with his dad, cousins, and friends, visiting 100s of breweries around the country.
Ryan passed away Tuesday, December 20th at the Spencer Hospital surrounded by his partner Kelsie and their three children.
Ryan is preceded in death by his mother Diane; grandparents Richard and Mert Dysard, Willard Long, and Charles Warner; his brothers-in-law Andrew Huffman and Philip Oviatt; and sister-in-law Katie Huffman.
Ryan was survived by his partner Kelsie Huffman Baccam and their three children Dylan, Emersyn, and Baylie; his father Michael Long; his grandmother/Mammaw Margie Warner; his stepmother Lynn Novak; step-siblings Allen (Sara) Northern and Amber (Chad) McGuire; father- and mother-in-law Mike and Lynn Huffman; puppies Henry, Lucy, and Frankie; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, family, friends, colleagues, and brewery buddies.
The world has lost one of the kindest, funniest, and best men to ever live. He leaves a void that will never be replaced. As Ryan always said when he was signing off of the radio–” I’m Ryan Long, and I’m gone.” This just isn't fair. We love you so much and will miss you terribly RyRy.
