Mrs. C. V. Payne of Sioux City, daughter of Mrs. Mary Starr of Spencer and well-known here where she made her home for a number of years, died at her home in Sioux City Thursday, March 3, 1932, at the age of 36 years, 7 months and 26 days. Death was caused by pneumonia.
The body was brought to Spencer where last rites were held at the Jones Funeral Home Sunday at 2:30 o'clock and at the Grace Methodist Episcopal church at three o'clock. The Reverend H.E.
Hutchinson, pastor of the M.E. church, who conducted the services, spoke
from I Thessalonians IV 13, I would not have you ignorant concerning them that the asleep.
Pall bearers were Claude Baldwin, A. L. Freeman, Robert Morrow, Dale E. Norton, Clayton Riley and Dr. A. P. Jespersen.
Interment was made at Riverside cemetery.

Cleo Blanche Starr, daughter of the late George Starr and Mary (Biewen) Starr, was born July 6, 1895 at Spencer, Iowa. Cleo grew to maturity in Spencer, where she attended all the
grades of the public schools, and was graduated from the high school with the class of 1914. She then attended Morningside college for two years, and later was a student at
the University of Minnesota. For a number of years she taught Latin and English in various high schools, and then did newspaper work. For about two years she was associate editor of a paper at Tulsa, Oklahoma, and then was with a paper at LaGrange, Illinois.
On July 11, 1925, she -was married to Charles Victor Payne, whom she had met when both were students at Morningside, and for a number of years they lived at La Moure, North Dakota. In the fall of 1929, they removed to Sioux City, Iowa, where she passed away.
Two Small Children Survive
To Mr. and Mrs. Payne two children were born, Charlotte Jean, now six years old, and Charles Victor, junior, aged sixteen months.
The two children and husband survive her. She is survived also by her aged mother, Mrs. Mary Starr, of Spencer, Iowa, and by five sisters and three brothers. They are, Mrs. Lily Snell, of Spencer; Mrs. Lee Pitzer, Madison, Wisconsin; Mrs. O. C. Lawler, Roselle, New
Jersey; Mrs. Dave Hagerty, Sioux City, Iowa; Miss Grace Starr, Chicago; Kirk W. Starr, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Leonard Starr, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Arnold Starr, Atlanta, Georgia. Her father, George Starr, and two sisters, Mrs. Ola Pitzer and Mrs. Gertrude
Carlson, preceded her in death.
Some years ago she united with the Methodist church of Spencer, Iowa, but after her marriage she transferred her church membership to the Presbyterian church of LaMoure, North Dakota. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Those who came from a distance to attend the services were Mrs. Payne's sister, Miss Grace Starr, of Chicago; Mr. Payne's brother, W.H. Payne, of Bismarck, North Dakota; his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. George Pennington of Milnor, North Dakota; and
friends, Charles Boatman, of Milnor; and Mr. Elmer Ferguson of Sioux City.
