Joseph Gross died at his home at 568 West Fifth street Monday morning, March 16, 1925, at 12:35 o'clock. Death was due to abscess of the lungs. Joseph Gross was born at Harper, Iowa, October 15, 1860. He was 65 years of age at the time of his death.
He was united in marriage at Clear Lake, Iowa, March 8, 1886, with Mary Ann Ollinger who has been his companion for thirty nine years and who survives him. For six years after their marriage they lived at Harper before moving to Clay county. The first year they lived on a farm two miles southeast of Royal and then moved to a farm four miles southwest of Royal where they lived until two years ago when Mr. Gross retired from farming and moved to Spencer.
Eight children were born to this union, seven sons and one daughter. The children are Gus Gross of Laurens, John Gross of Greenville, William, who lives at home, Henry and Clarence Gross of Royal, Leo Gross of Detroit. Mich., and Frank Gross who died nineteen years ago on the farm near Royal, and one daughter, Mrs. A. F. Maurer of Rossie. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. George Rudolph of Poccahontas and Mrs Lena Pieffer of Harper and two brothers Henry and Nick Gross of Harper.
