John Berberich, a farmer living in Lone Tree township passed away suddenly on Friday evening, March 2nd, after an illness of only a few hours. He was helping to move some household furniture and was driving a moving van on Thursday morning. March 2, when he was taken suddenly ill and stopped at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Ferris. He did not recover and doctors were called but nothing could be done. His death is thought to be due to heart failure.
A funeral mass was conducted Monday by Father Wendal of Sutherland, Iowa, at the Catholic church at Royal and interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
John A. Berberich, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Berberich, of Royal, was born in Chatsworth, Illinois, on April 3, 1895, being at the time of death almost twenty-seven years of age. He attended the rural schools near Chatsworth where his father was engaged in farming and in March, 1912, moved with his parents to Clay county and settled on a farm in Lone Tree township. A few years ago, he entered into partnership with his father and had since that time been looking after the home farm. Besides his mother and father, he is survived by two sister, Mrs. John Gross of Greenville, and Miss Maria Berberich of Royal and a brother, Henry who is still at home. A sister, Mrs. William Gross, passed away on October 5, 1921, at the Spencer hospital. Her death was due to complications arising from an operation.
