A. C. Meyer

A. C. Meyer, who died here March 5th, wax born on November 2, 1851 at Lippltipiunault, Germany. When only two years of age, he came with his parents to the United States and located in Spring Grove, Wisconsin. In 1869 they moved to Laone township, Winnebago, Illinois. At Winnebago, December 15, 1875, Mr. Meyer united in marriage to Miss Eliza. Gakey. After their marriage they moved to a farm near Durand, Illinois, where they remained for twenty-three years. To this union eight children were born, three sons and five daughters. The mother preceded them In death in 1897. In 1899 Mr. Meyer was married to Sadie E. Otto of Dakota, Illinois. In the spring of 1901, Mr. Meyer and family moved to Clay county, Iowa, and settled on a farm five miles south of Spencer. Mrs. Meyer passed away in the fall of 1904. In 1905, Mr. Meyer was united in marriage to Mrs. Hannah Selhaver of Spencer, Iowa. They remained on their farm south of Spencer until 1911 when they moved to Spencer and located on north Main street. Here they lived at the time of Mr. Meyer's death.

Mr, Meyer was one of Clay county's prominent farmers and citizen. He was quiet in disposition and square and honest in all his dealings. He was very much respected by his wide circle of friends.

Mr. Meyer is survived by his wife and eight children, Mrs. A. L. Kohn, Mrs. Carl Hoberg, Mrs. L. E. Hein, Samuel and Melburn Meyer, all of Spencer; Mrs. O. V. Wolf of Freeport, Illinois; and Roy Meyer of Fort Dodge, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, four brothers, John and Frank Meyer of Beloit, Wisconsin, George of Durand, Illinois, Henry of Freeport, Illinois, and two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Kryder and Mrs. Frank Granzou of Juda. Wisconsin.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, March 8, at the Grace Methodist church of Spencer, Dr. Herbert Clegg, officiated.
