Herbert I. Farnes, 88, of Spencer, died August 25 at the Good Samaritan Home in Albert Lea, Minnesota

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at North Lawn Cemetery, Spencer with the Rev. Tom Dettmer officiating

Mr. Farnes was born November 6, 1902 in South Dakota to Andrew and Julia Setbacken Farnes. His childhood years were spent in South Dakota where he received his early education. Following his schooling he continued to live in South Dakota where he farmed.

He married Josephine Hanson. They had five children

He later married Dora Talmadge in Lake Preston, South Dakota. Following their marriage, they moved to Franklin, Minnesota, where they farmed until moving to Spencer in 1952. In Spencer, Mr. Farnes worked for a DX Service Station and North Lawn Cemetery.

For the past year he has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Home in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Courteau and one son, Jim.

He is survived by two sons, Herbert Farnes Jr., of Boise, Idaho and Allan Farnes of Albert Lea, Minnesota; one daughter, Geraldine Gosche of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren

The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
