Ardail E. Fagen, 69, of Humboldt and formerly of Spencer, died Sunday, February 28, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ. The Rev. Tom Zoelzer will officiate at the services.

Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Spencer, at 1:30 p.m.

The son of Howard and Nellie Roberts Fagen, he was born July 7, 1918 in Clay County where he was raised.

Mr. Fagen served in the U.S. Navy from 1937 to 1941. He later returned to the Spencer area where he farmed with his father.

He married Ruth Gillpatrick, October 7, 1945, at Spencer. They farmed in Clay County until 1958 when they moved to Clinton where he owned and operated a cafe

In 1962 they moved to Storm Lake. Later he became co owner of the Holiday Inn Motel in Mason City where they lived. They moved to Humboldt in 1975 where he owned and operated the Village Kobbler Shoe Store until retiring in 1985.

Mr. Fagen was a member of the united Methodist Church of Storm Lake, the Masonic Lodge and the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple of Sioux City. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and flying

Survivors include his wife; one son, Jerry Fagen of Humboldt; three daughter, Jill Hansen of Northwood, Jacqueline Anderson of Storm Lake and JoEllen Colelman of Minneapolis; and one brother, Eldon Fagen of Spencer; eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
