February 18, 1957Marshall Churchwell Elkin was born in the town of Lilly in Tasewell County, Illinois, November 1, 1901. He was the son of Lloyd and Della Elkin. At an early age he moved with his family to Iowa where he resided in the vicinity of Greene County.
On June 14, 1931, he was married to Frances Ann Olmstead at Estherville to that union five children were born, four of whom survive. They include Vivian, Margaret, Doris and Marshall, Jr. all of whom are at home. One daughter Laura preceded her father in death in the year 1949
The Elkin family had lived in the Estherville community for about 14 years and then for the past 13 years have been residents of Spencer. Mr. Elkin had farmed most of his life but in recent years had been engaged in the selling of feed and since last July he had operated a service station in Spencer.
He died February 18 at the University Hospital in Iowa City where he had gone for treatment of a heart condition. He was 55 years old at the time of his death
In addition to his wife and children the survivors include three brothers and two sisters. They are Harry Elkin of Spirit Lake, Roland of Lake Park, Howard of Everly, Mrs. Lambert Roetman of Lake Park and Mrs. Elva Opelt of Colfax. His step father William Swartz.
Mr. Elkin was baptized in the Christian Church at Bagley in 1915 and had continued as an active worker in the church during his life time. At the time of his death he was a member of the Christian Church in Spencer and of the board of directors, serving in the capacity of deacon. He was also a member of the Welcome Class of the Sunday School and had served as President of that Class
Funeral services for Mr. Elkin were held Thursday, February 21 at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Church with Rev. Richard Goins officiating
Burial was in North Lawn cemetery.
Pallbearers; Walter Dittman, Merrill Solomon, Elmer Anderson, Bill Green, John Mattlin, Ralph Brink.
Cobbs Warner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
