A funeral service for Edward "Ed" Elbert, 74 of Spencer was held Monday, December 16, 2002 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. The Rev. Roger Linnan and Monsignor Lewis Kollasch led the 11 a.m. service

Casket Bearers; Ron Sears, Mike Elbert, Duane (Dewey) Lawrence, Dan Frink, John Zinn, Kyle Elbert

Military service were conducted by Glen Pedersen Post #1, American Legion of Spencer

Interment was at North Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Spencer

Edward "Ed" Joseph Elbert, the son of August and Clotilda Kaschmitter was born June 20, 1928 in Whittemore. His childhood years were spent in the Whittemore area where he received his education, graduating from Whittemore Presentation Academy in 1945.

He served in the United States Army and spent 1954-1956 in Korea

He returned to Iowa and married Jean Hefti on February 7, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore and was engaged in farming. He was the owner of Ed's DX Service Station in Luverne until moving to Spencer in 1975

He became employed with A&M Laundry until retiring from there in 1995. He then began work with Sherwin Williams

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister

Survivors include his wife; one son, Joey and his wife, Jamie of Sioux City; one daughter, Lisa of Sioux City; two grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Davis of Humboldt and Gladys Anliker of Spring Green, Wisconsin; two brothers; Paul and his wife, Jo of Algona and John and his wife, Trudy of Spencer; other relatives and friends

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements
