July 3, 1980Services for Alva S. DuBois, 97, of Sioux Rapids were held Monday morning, July 7, at the First United Church of Sioux Rapids. The Rev. Frederick Brown officiated
Burial in Northlawn Cemetery in Spencer
Pallbearers: Bill DuBois, Kenneth DuBois, James Graeber, Michael Ingram, Gordon DuBois, John Nickelson
Honorary Bearers: Oscar Olson, Clarence Marsh, Rueben Haroldson, Del Agnew
Mr. DuBois was born June 17, 1883 in Douglas Township, the son of Hiram and Margaret Roberts DuBois. He received his education from the Douglas Center School
Mr. DuBois married Lila Fagen on December 16, 1908 and they farmed until 1935, when they moved to Storm Lake. She preceded him in death in 1938
He married Olga Theiss on December 31, 1941 and they moved to Sioux Rapids and spent the winters in Pharr, Texas.
Mr. DuBois drove the star mail routes to Sioux Rapids and Sheldon for a number of years
Mr. DuBois moved to the Sioux Care Center in 1979 where he was a member of the Jolly Elders Club. He was crowned King of the Bicentennial in 1976
He died Thursday, July 3, at the Care Center.
Preceding him death were his parents; his second wife in 1972; one stepson, Norman Theiss of Clear Lake; his son, Sherwin DuBois; and 12 brothers and sisters
Mr. DuBois is survived by his daughter in law, Mrs. Opal DuBois of Sioux Rapids; three daughters, Mary(Glenn) Graeber of Rembrandt, Arlene (Hal) Hood of Beverly Hills, California and Phyllis (Kenneth) Ingram of Cherokee; one sister, Mrs. Cora Godell of Redfield, South Dakota; two step children, Mrs. Dorothy (Warren) Johnson of Pine Bluff, Illinois and Sylvester Theiss of Phoenix, Arizona; 13 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren
The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids was in charge of the service arrangements
