May 19, 1987Services for John H. Dirksen, 74, of Spencer and formerly of Des Moines will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Warner Chapel. The Rev. Paul Bussert will officiate
Casket Bearers; Dennis Slaymaker, Jack Peacock, Kim Kunzmann, Jack Slaymaker, Tom Gibson, Perry Clarke
Burial will at Northlawn Cemetery in Spencer
The son of John O. and Reka Lupkes Dirksen, he was born June 30, 1912 in Hampton. His childhood years were spent in that community and it was there he received his early education
Following his schooling, he worked for Ed Sundholm in Albert City. He later moved to Ankeny where he worked in the ordinance plant
Mr. Dirksen married Madelene Peacock, November 15, 1942 in Grant Co., Missouri. Following his marriage, he worked for his brother, Ole, in his machine shop. In 1946, they moved to Des Moines, where he worked for Meredith Publishing Co. until retiring in 1978
Following his retirement, John and Madelene returned to Spencer where he was a member of the Presbyterian Church
His hobbies included golf, pool and fishing
He was preceded in death by his parents
Survivors include his wife; one son, Ronald Allen of Los Angeles, California; two daughters, Kimberly Sue Jones and her husband, Wynn of Bainbridge Island, Washington; one brother, Ole of Spencer; and three sisters, Vera Boots of Rushmore, Minnesota, Bernice Wolf of Kansas City, Kansas and Fanny Gamble of Pocahontas
