March 28, 1989Funeral services for Nellie Orvis, 97, Spencer, will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, with the Rev. Dale Hodges officiating
Casket Bearers; John Ingvall, James Larson, Leland Hagerty, Gordon Wilson, Marlin Foote
Mrs. Orvis died March 28 at Longhouse Residence in Spencer
The daughter of John and Betsy Nelson Apland, she was born September 29, 1891 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her childhood years were spent in Lincoln until the age of five, when her family moved to Paton, Iowa. She lived in Paton for a short time until moving to a farm southwest of Terril, where she received her early education at Lake Center Country School
Following her childhood years, she was a nanny in Colorado Springs, Colorado for a doctor and she had also worked for the Earling Hotel in Spencer
She had been married to Ellsworth Patrick and Charles Monroe Davis and worked for Ole Dirksen's Machine Shop. She worked for the North Y Cafe in the kitchen until retiring in 1953
She married Alton Orvis on December 5, 1964 in Jackson, Minnesota. For the past four years she has been a resident of Northshire and Longhouse Residence in Spencer
Mrs. Orvis was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Gracie Espey; two stepsons, Harvey and Clarence Davis and two brothers, Louis and Ole Apland
Survivors include her husband; one son Tay Davis of Spencer; two daughters, Mildred and her husband Arlin Culver and Louise Wilson all of Spencer; one stepson, Ivan Davis of Coeur D Alene, Idaho; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren
Warner Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements
